Welcome to the Bamford Review of Mental Health and Learning Disability Website
This site aims to provide information on the Review of Mental Health and Learning Disability. This independent review will look at the law, policy and provisions which affect people with mental health needs or a learning disability in Northern Ireland.
The Review follows similar exercises in England and Scotland, and it is expected that the work will take at least 2 years to complete.
The Review is being overseen by a Steering Committee comprising representatives from professional and other interested groups in the mental health and learning disability fields.
Dear Colleagues
It is with deepest regret that I have to advise you of the untimely death of my dear friend and colleague, David Bamford. The Review owes him a great debt and it is our hope that the reports and their subsequent impact on service reform will be a fitting tribute to his life and work.
In recognition of David’s contribution to our work, the Minister, Shaun Woodward, has agreed to our request that the Review will now be recognised as the Bamford Review of Mental Health and Learning Disability (Northern Ireland).
Yours sincerely
Professor Roy McClelland
Deputy Chairman
